Surveying techniques actually originated throughout much of the existed history recorded in another time, a place that was known for working out mathematical solutions contributing invaluable knowledge to the world. A past time when the River Nile overflowed, its banks washing out farm boundaries in ancient Egypt. By using simple applications of geometry, boundaries were re-established. The question is how can we be certain of this fact?… Simple. It was discovered and recorded how the nearly perfect square of the north-south orientation of the Great Pyramid of Giza, which was built c. 2700 BC, confirmed the Egyptians’ command of surveying techniques.
In History it states the methods used for surveying were far different to today. Angles and distances were measured using various tools: chains with links of a known length, and using tools made of the material steel or invar as measuring tapes. Such tools were used to measure horizontal distances and so forth; conclusively evident they made the most of their resources, as did every century.
Quantity surveyors are responsible for the key role in an organisation and financial management of construction projects. In layman’s terms, they simply manage cost effectively and ensure they get the best value from the contractors and suppliers. This would involve obtaining tenders, arranging contracts and managing any costs on behalf of the client whilst the work is being undertaken.
Synchronously, surveyors are expected to liaise with other property professionals as well. Additionally, they are able to act as negotiators with their clients’ representative on payments and the final settlement.
It is evident that surveyors have extremely diverse responsibilities which can include property project management, construction management and also management consultancy.
These complex and intricate responsibilities have also been carried out by many renowned surveyors. For your interest I have listed some below:
1) Benjamin Banneker
2) Len Beadell
3) Daniel Boone
